Laban Kipkorir Chepkwony Breaks 800m Record at Istvan Gyulai Memorial

Kenyan middle-distance runner Laban Kipkorir Chepkwony delivered a career-defining performance at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial – a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting – in Budapest on Tuesday (12), winning the men’s 800m in a blistering personal best of 1:42.96 and breaking the nine-year-old meeting record set by world record-holder David Rudisha. Chepkwony, who placed fourth at Kenya’s World Trials last month, secured redemption with this record-breaking victory. Ireland’s Mark English followed with a national record time of 1:43.37 for second place, while French champion Yanis Meziane clocked 1:43.71 for third, making it one of the fastest 800m races of the season.
