Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy shocked fans at the 2025 Absa Kip Keino Classic , World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event, in Nairobi by winning the men’s 100m in a personal best of 9.98 seconds, defeating African sprint stars Ferdinand Omanyala and Bayanda Walaza. Kennedy’s breakout performance under high altitude conditions silenced the Ulinzi Sports Complex crowd as Kenya’s Omanyala, the pre-race favorite and African record holder, settled for bronze in 10.07. South Africa’s Walaza took silver in 10.03. Despite a -0.7 m/s headwind, the race was one of the fastest ever run on Kenyan soil, highlighting fierce global sprint competition.
