The Ulinzi Sports Complex, located in Lang’ata, Nairobi, is a modern multi-sport facility developed by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to promote sporting excellence among military personnel and the general public. Construction of the facility began in October 2020, following a directive by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who officially commissioned the project as part of Kenya’s broader strategy to boost sports infrastructure nationwide.

Officially opened on April 13, 2022, the Ulinzi Sports Complex spans 35 acres within Lang’ata Barracks. The complex features a 7,500-seater stadium with a natural grass football pitch, an eight-lane tartan athletics track, an Olympic-size swimming pool, outdoor basketball and tennis courts, and training fields for rugby, hockey, and volleyball. It also includes a state-of-the-art indoor arena and a Wellness Centre offering physiotherapy, mental health services, and rehabilitation for KDF personnel.

The Ulinzi Sports Complex not only serves as a training and competition venue for the KDF but is also open to civilian athletes and hosts local and national tournaments. Its strategic location in Nairobi and world-class facilities position it as one of the leading sports complexes in Kenya, enhancing Nairobi’s appeal as a hub for athletic development and international sports events.

The complex will be the venue for the sixth edition of the Absa Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour that is set for May 31, 2025. Athletes will compete at Gold level earning both prize money and world ranking points. The yearly tour was launched in 2020 and is taking shape to be a highly competitive world-class event.
