𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐎𝐁𝐈, 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 – Anticipation is building as Kenyan 800m sensation Sarah Moraa prepares to take on St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Shafiqua Maloney in what promises to be a thrilling middle-distance clash at the Absa Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour Gold, set for May 31 at Nairobi’s Ulinzi Sports Complex, a new venue to the accustomed Nyayo National Stadium.

Moraa, Kenya’s World Under-20 800m champion, will race on home soil for the first time this season, a move she says is both strategic and symbolic.

“I’m well prepared to race at home. This is part of my build-up to a busy season ahead, and racing at the Kip Keino Classic means everything to me. It’s always special to run in front of a home crowd,” said Moraa.

The athlete will be making a transition from junior to senior ranks in the eyes of many Kenyan fans, though she has already proven her mettle on the global stage. Her powerful finishing kick and charismatic celebrations have won her fans worldwide, and with the Paris 2025 World Championships and the upcoming Tokyo World Championships in sight, Moraa is keen to sharpen her form early.

Facing her is the equally formidable Shafiqua Maloney, a national record holder and Olympian from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Maloney, known for her tactical prowess and grit, is no stranger to high-pressure races. She will be aiming to make a statement against one of the world’s best.

“This is a nice move for me,” Moraa said in an interview about racing top-tier athletes like Maloney. “It’s an important step up, a test against the best, and exactly what I need at this point in my career.”

The women’s 800m race is expected to be one of the most-watched events at the Kip Keino Classic, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Series. With Moraa’s explosive speed and Maloney’s tactical style, fans are assured of a showdown that could go down to the final strides.

“I know the stadium will be packed,” Moraa added with a smile. “The fans always show up in big numbers here, and that motivates me. Their energy is something else. Racing at home is not just about winning, iit’s about connecting with the people and inspiring young athletes.”

Event organizers have promised a world-class experience for fans and athletes alike. The Ulinzi tartan track at the Ulinzi Sports Complex will be tested by some of the fastest legs on the planet, and the women’s 800m is poised to be one of the main highlights.

As the countdown to May 31 continues, all eyes will be on Moraa and Maloney. Will the Kenyan queen of the 800m hold court at home, or will Maloney spoil the party with a surprise finish?
